THIS SATURDAY - Indie Wirks Presents The Kayas

YES folks, you read right.  The KAYAS are fit and well and this Saturday they're gonna' be tearing it up at Wirksworth's Hope And Anchor.

For those who know The KAYAS there's only one thing to say and that's BE THERE!

For those who don't, they are a four peice Indie Rock band and a big breakthrough prospect for 2012/13. The band have reformed after a brief break because the world just couldn't fill the gap.

Singer/Songwriter Ad Edwards writes tunes that rock AND roll but still have humour and a meaning.  Almost like a poet who just also happens to be in a band.  Ad formed the band in 2007 and they have been through various changes in personnel before settling on the current line up of Ad on guitar and vocals, Philie Jones on bass, Duane Williams on guitar and Abbo Lewis on drums.

The Kayas know how to perform on stage and their gigs are always lively, so if you're in the area, get yourself and your mates down the front and enjoy the party.

Full details of the night are HERE
The Kayas' Facebook page is HERE

IC1s – New Release ‘Not Perfect’ / Emerging Icons

The Brilliant IC1s release single ‘Not Perfect’ on Monday April 30th as part of the ‘Emerging Icons’ compilation curated by BRIT award winning Kaiser Chiefs and released via Emerging Icons/Universal.

IC1s debut single ‘Levitate’ saw massive success as the 2nd most downloaded new entry in the ITunes Alternative Singles Chart in its week of entry, resulting in a peak at #24 in the Alternative Singles Chart.

Follow up single ‘Karma’ was featured on Soccer AM, was Q Magazines track of the day on release and peaked at #40 in the alternative charts. The band donated all profit to UK homelessness charity Shelter.

2011 saw the band work alongside Gary Powell (The Libertines / Dirty Pretty Things) and his 25 Hour Convenience Store record label. Expanding their fan base as far as Oasis discoverer, Creation Records Founder and all-round musical myth-maker Alan Mcgee, The Libertines’ Gary Powell, The Stone Roses’ Mani and many more, the band recently headlined the final date of HMVs Next Big Thing Festival in February 2012. Since inception in the summer of 2010, the band have shared venues and festival stages with Indie giants such as The Charlatans and The Cribs, childhood heroes like Buzzcocks and even mainstream acts such as Tinie Tempah.

The release sees Emerging Icons team up with Kaiser Chiefs in hand picking 13 bands from 10,000 for the labels debut release. IC1s frontman Daniel Coburn says "It’s about time someone did this! They keep saying guitar music is dead, but it’s not where I’m standing, it’s more alive than ever. So hats off to Emerging Icons for giving people a chance".

Emerging Icons founder Kat Jackman says "It’s becoming more and more important to give audiences a filter which highlights good music and shuts out the band. The Emerging Icons initiative not only gives exciting new musical talent a platform to get heard but also gives audiences a trustworthy way to find good new music".

Alan McGee (Creation Records) -
"If you go and see a new band, go and see IC1s, they’re brilliant and post-everything".

Mark Beaumont (NME, The Times, The Guardian) -

"A proper, no messing about, rock and roll band".

Gary Powell (The Libertines/Dirty Pretty Things) -

"After meeting IC1s and seeing obvious confidence exuding from their being it’s easy to see this is not a band of pomp and circumstance; they actually deliver in spades – an approach to live performance that’s lacking in today’s scene. Highly exciting to watch and thought provoking to listen to – but they’ve also an ace in their deck in lead singer Daniel Coburn. A must see for anyone who wants a real rock and roll band with attitude and ability".

Pete Donaldson (XFM/6music) -

"They're a little bit Libertines, a little bit Ramones - but they're certainly 100% hundred percent London. Whack Jack must surely serve as a stomping, unifying crowd pleaser live. The punk rock chorus comes out of precisely nowhere and is the sort of thing the word 'tasty' was invented for".

Sarah Champion (Absolute Radio) -
"Love ‘Not Perfect’, Indie pop rock with attitude, particularly infectious!".

THE CHAPMAN FAMILY - New EP, New Deal, New member and New live dates.

Teesside's outstanding Chapman Family have a new EP set for release.  Cruel Britannia EP is released on June 18th on BEST BEFORE RECORDS, the label that the band have recently struck a new deal with.

The self-produced EP showcases the band's best song writing to date, continuing their reign as one of the best alternative bands in the country.  As a taste of what's to come the band have made one of the tracks, This English Life available on their Youtube channel.  The track describes the demise of traditional English culture and the mistrust of government and is accompanied by my favourite video of the year so far by a mile.  Here's a few snips of what the press have had to say about the song;

“Ballistic and truly awe inspiring.” NME

“Feels like a speed race through a dangerous landscape of death traps...” Artrocker

“Everything from Fugazi-style hardcore to Mogwai dynamics... Sounds like a high volume
SOS signal from the recession devastated North-East of England”. Hot Press

“Sinister, goth inspired, post-punk symphony.” NARC

The full track list is;  No More Tears, Cruel Britannia, This English Life, Summer Song and is rounded off with the brilliant cover of MORRISSEY'S Every Day Is Like Sunday.

Have a listen to This English Life for yourself below along with links to the EP pre-order, the album Burn Your Town and all of the band's sites.

The band have recently expanded to five members and now line up as Kingsley vocals/keyboard, Pop lead guitar, Owen guitar, Scott drums and Kevin bass, giving them a new level of intensity live, while broadening their creative reach in the studio.  Best Before Records announced, "The Chapman Family are one of the most exciting bands of the last 5 years and being huge fans, we're very exciting to be working with them!!"

The label are to showcase the band at this years ‘The Great Escape’ on Friday May 11th at the Best Before Records Showcase @ LIFE, 9pm.

Another Miracle

Do you wanna go?
To the depths of the echoes?
Are you looking back or are you still afraid?
Are you coming round?

Do you wanna be?
All the things that you used to be?
Well the time is now and no we're not afraid
Cos we're coming round

The day breaks the sun shines on my face
Another miracle
I see the sky, I warm to your embrace
Another miracle
Awaits

Do you hear the sounds
Of the desolate underground
Where they play those songs, that you were loved by
Is she coming back?

Do you wanna know?
All the things that you used to know?
All the tricks you played were just a pass-time
Now she's coming back

The day breaks the sun shines on my face
Another miracle
I see the sky, I warm to your embrace
Another miracle
Awaits

Today

Boy
I don't care who your mates are
I don't care who owes you cash
Just as long as you've learnt the way
To get up and fight the day

It's the reason you get outta bed
It's the reason you take your first step
Thinking of yesterday
But the times have changed

Today is here and now
And it's time to sort your shit out so don't frown
We're looking at two days of madness
Awaiting a weekend that I can't miss

Girl
You're an enemy to yourself
And you're living your life on a shelf
You're an enemy to yourself
I can hear your cry for help

It's the reason you get outta bed
It's the reason you take your first step
Thinking of yesterday
But the times have changed

Today is here and now
And it's time to sort your shit out so don't frown
We're looking at two days of madness
Awaiting a weekend that I can't miss
And I won't miss
And I can't miss

Are you getting yourself out of bed
Have you cleared all the noise from your head
Never thinking of yesterday
Because the times have changed

The First Time

Thank you for coming round
Thank you for your time and thank you for listening to me
Cos I have been rambling on
What do I mean?
Talking the night away
Thinking of the times that you helped me
I could not breathe
I'm thankful for everything
I hope you can see

This is the first time
We've ever lost touch we've ever been less than friends
This is the first time
I close my eyes, I drift off and count to ten
Cos I know I'll see you again

I know I'll see you again

Thank you for being there
Through all of those times, I've never had the courage to say
That you were the only one
But now it's too late
And I'll make it up to you
I'll take you by the hand, we'll run away, just leave it to me
We'll move to a little town
Next to the sea

This is the first time
We've ever lost touch we've ever been less than friends
This is the first time
I close my eyes, I drift off and count to ten
Cos I know I'll see you again
I know I'll see you again

New Education

Hello class it's time for your lesson
Line up and wait for detention
I'll tell you things that you will never hear

You'll get wrecked, you'll make your mistakes
And this is something they will never teach
Line up and wait for your lesson

Stiff competition
From every direction
But don't let it get you down

Bad situations
Good vibrations
Let's all raise a glass to your new education

I admit that I'm not perfect
I've messed up and I have paid for it
Line up and wait for your lesson

Take notes
Cos we are all the same
Same thoughts, we feel the same pain
Books out it's time for your lesson

Stiff competition
From every direction
But don't let it get you down

Bad situations
Good vibrations
Let's all raise a glass to your new education

And there's hope for your new education
And we'll work, we'll work
For your new education

The Horizon

I would walk through a wall
A thousand times or more
Just to see your delight
Cos I'm lost on the cause
Been locking all my doors
Never fear, never die

In the dust of the horizon
Maybe one day we'll sip champagne
Will you join me on the rampage?

With the rainfall and the heartaches
Maybe on day we'll show this world
We could stand tall on the front page

As we slide on the breeze
The unsung melodies
They make us laugh, they make us cry
And as you soar next to me
I enjoy your company
So never fear, never die

In the dust of the horizon
Maybe one day we'll sip champagne
Will you join me on the rampage?

With the rainfall and the heartaches
Maybe on day we'll show this world
We could stand tall on the front page

Now when we're strong we'll let 'em know
We'll tell them of this hope
Never fear, never die

Join me on the rampage
Maybe one day we'll sip champagne
Stand tall on the front page
Maybe one day we'll show this world

When our two worlds collide
No one can ever deny
We'll never fear, never die

Quiet Night In

So then it goes
You feel on top of the world
You feel like you've got it made
And you can have anything

Nothing will get in the way
Nothing will ruin the day
'Cos you know you've got it made

But then it all crashed down, you found yourself alone
You realised that you should have stayed at home
Stayed at home

So then it goes
You've got something to give
And you've got a life to live
You've got dreams to dream

Nothing will get in the way
Nothing will ruin the day
'Cos you know you've got it made

But then it all crashed down, you found yourself alone
You realised that you should have stayed at home
Stayed at home

Chase

See the look in her eye
Another glass of red, a taste of the sky
She's had enough time
Yes she's had enough time

Feel the pinch of the cold
A message to the world, a queue for the dole
We've had enough time
Yes we've had enough time

We could talk all night
If we decide
To bury this war and change our lives
And if it comes on top, I won't forget
I promise you
I'll chase it away

If I'm out on my own
The places that I've been, the seeds that I've sown
I've had enough time
Yes I've had enough time

'Cos the people around
They're heading for the hills, away from the town
They've had enough time
Yes they've had enough time

We could talk all night
If we decide
To bury this war and change our lives
And if it comes on top, I won't forget
I promise you
I'll chase it away

Here To Stay

Do you see?
These people hanging around, they're doubting your ability
But they don't know what's inside
And they'll break you down
How're you gonna' turn the tide?
Turn the tide

One day
You'll understand
You don't look back your life is in your hands

One day
You'll see the light
Follow your heart, everything will be alright

Alright

Welcome to your brand new day
Take your pride and turn away
I feel you come alive with something to say
You've got hope
You're here to stay

One day
You'll understand
You don't look back your life is in your hands

One day
You'll see the light
Follow your heart, everything will be alright

And those people standing in your way
Tell you tales of yesterday
I feel you come alive with something to say
You've got hope, you're here to stay
In your heart, you're here to stay

Arcane

The damage is done I've taken a beating
I'm down on my knees
My head is gone and something is lost

But now that I'm with you
And now that I'm healing
Now I begin to understand that nothing is lost

Into this night
Into this moment
The moment has got me, it's drove me insane

Into this dream
Into this silence
You know that I need you, I need you to save me

To save me

I'm hopelessly chasing, I'm hopelessly losing
I'm down on my knees
My head is gone and something is lost

But now that I'm with you
And now that I'm healing
Now I begin to understand that nothing is lost

Into this night
Into this moment
The moment has got me, it's drove me insane

Into this dream
Into this silence
You know that I need you, I need you to save me

To save me

Welcome Home

See the view from my window
This place is under my skin
I watch the beautiful people
Then I begin

To think of chances I've let go
And stories floating away
I kept it all in a keep-safe
Until today

Looking out through the keyhole
I'm gazing up to the stars
Of all the places that we know
This place is ours

While the world is still waiting
Relaxing under the sun
The future's ours for the taking
Our time has come

We've come back to welcome home
All the dreams we've ever known

They say it's a matter of time
Before our love is lost on the motorway
Your eyes are as deep as the see
I can tell you I've seen another way

The smoke that drenches this landscape
Is never far from my heart
I'm holding out for a new day
A place to start

Perhaps a room with a sea view
Will give me a chance with this girl
A chance is all that I ask for
To change the world

We've come back to welcome home
All the dreams we've ever known

They say it's a matter of time
Before our love is lost on the motorway
Your eyes are as deep as the see
I can tell you I've seen another way

I'm calling to nowhere
I'm calling...
I'm calling to nowhere
I'm calling...

They say it's a matter of time
Before our love is lost on the motorway
This town is as deep as the see
I can tell you I've seen another way
